Paid off $32K of lifestyle debt by pretending I still made minimum wage

TIMELINE2y 2m

I was making $85K a year but spending like I made $200K. Designer clothes, bottle service every weekend, a leased Mercedes. When I finally sat down and added it all up I owed $32,000 across four credit cards. My minimum payments alone were $1,100/month. So I did something drastic: I pretended I still made $11/hour. I calculated what my budget would look like at minimum wage and lived on that. Rice and beans. Bus pass instead of the Benz (let the lease expire). Thrift stores. Every extra dollar went to the highest-interest card first. It took 26 months but I cleared every single dollar. The day I made that last payment I cried in my car for 20 minutes.

Turning PointPretended I still made minimum wage and budgeted accordingly.
Lesson LearnedYou don't have a spending problem. You have a 'who am I trying to impress' problem.
Could you have lived on minimum wage?
